Les Etoiles du Grand Rex

The MeetIn group on the sound stage

I organized a tour of The Grand Rex with the MeetIn group and it was so much fun. It's an interactive walk through with audio guide. The' best part was that they were secretly taping us and reeditng the parts into movie bits. A must see for thouse who are looking for less common things to do while in Paris.

The Grand Rex Theatre is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in all of Paris. It was opened in 1932 and had 6 smaller rooms added to its main hall in 1974. In 1981, it was declared a National Historic Building and in 1988 it installed the largest cinema screen in all of Paris at 21 x 11 meters! The Grand Rex can accommodate up to 2,800 spectators for cinema, dance, music concert or one-man shows.

The projection room

The Grand Rex, the biggest cinema in Europe with a seating capacity of 2,750, has projected films for more than one million spectators for over half a century. This is why it created "The Stars of the Grand Rex" an unusual tour behind the scenes of the cinema. The Grand Rex has an Art Deco facade, a starry vault and a Baroque decor which makes it a unique and exceptional cinema.

The dizzying star tunnel

Opened in 1932 with seating in orchestra and two balcony levels. The atmospheric auditorium is in a perfect shap. A big screen called "grand large", a screen behind the stage that can be removed, is used for some movies and every Christmas. Disney movies are a tradition with a water fall on stage.

In the Director's Office

Four screens were added in the next building and three screens underground replacing the former dance hall in the 1970's.

A new project for 12 screens and a remodeling keeping the main auditorium intact is planned for the future.

I was filmed dubbing a movie: "Je Vous Aime!"

There is an additionnal attraction called "Les Etoiles du Rex", looking like a Euro Disney attraction, which takes you on a 'self conducted' backstage tour which describes the history of the theatre and the movies with plenty of thrills and special effects.

They cut the film stage images with this boat scene

In October 1982, le Ministere de la Culture added Le Grand Rex to the list of historic momuments.
